Learner Support Fund (LSF)

Learner Support Fund

The Learner Support Fund (LSF) is financial support available to eligible learners who may face barriers to starting or completing their course due to personal or financial hardship. It’s designed to remove practical obstacles to learning by helping with costs that aren’t directly covered by tuition funding. This can include things like travel expenses, childcare, meals, essential equipment, books, or other course-related costs that would otherwise make participation difficult.

LSF is typically discretionary, meaning it’s assessed on an individual basis by the training provider or college. Learners usually need to demonstrate financial need and meet certain eligibility criteria. The aim is simple but powerful: to ensure that finances don’t stand in the way of someone progressing in education or training. If used well, it can make the difference between a learner dropping out and successfully completing their programme.

Cost-Effective Recruitment

A Cost-Effective Way to Recruit and Develop Talent

Apprenticeships are one of the most financially supported recruitment routes available to UK employers.

£1,000 Government Incentive

Receive a £1,000 incentive when you recruit an apprentice aged 16–18, or 19–24 with an EHCP or care leaver status.

NI Contribution Exemption

Employers are exempt from paying National Insurance Contributions for apprentices under 25, provided they earn under the Upper Secondary Threshold.

95–100% Funded Training

Training costs are typically 95–100% government funded for non-levy paying employers — making apprenticeships significantly more cost-effective than traditional recruitment.
