Mike West — Managing Director Mike West is the Managing Director of Skills Funding Group, bringing over 17 years’ experience in apprenticeships, employer engagement, skills strategy and funding. He leads the strategic direction of the organisation, working closely with employers, senior leaders and learners to turn skills investment into real, measurable outcomes. Throughout his career, Mike has worked at the intersection of business need and funded training—helping organisations develop their people, close skills gaps and build sustainable talent pipelines. He is known for his practical, plain-English approach and his ability to cut through complexity to make skills funding work in the real world. Over the years, Mike has been continually inspired by the passion, expertise and specialist knowledge of people working across apprenticeship and training delivery. Seeing the impact that great training professionals can have on individuals and organisations has been a driving force behind Skills Funding Group—and he is proud to be bringing that depth of talent and experience together under one roof at SFG. Away from work, Mike can often be found at the rugby club, coaching and refereeing boys’ and girls’ teams, or zig-zagging his way around Clevedon Golf Club. He also has a real passion for travel and discovering new places, regularly squeezing in city mini-breaks wherever in the world curiosity takes him next.
